The purpose of this post is not to promote consumption of chocolate. Instead, it is simply to raise awareness of the basic nutritional information regarding items of food that millions of people enjoy and will therefore inevitably consume. ⁣

For the amount of food available in each bar/bag, the calories and sugar per item is relatively high. Therefore, immediate troubleshooting rationale would be to weigh out portions for consumption. Despite this being logical practice, we are human. And sometimes human’s don’t follow logic. ⁣

In the instance of the chocolate bags on the last slide, “If I open the packet I can’t stop” probably represents a good portion of us when it comes to consuming a food we enjoy. Whilst this is perceived as being weak or pathetic, it is not. It’s just a representation of being human. We enjoy chocolate – therefore we should eat chocolate.⁣

In the case of fat loss, one’s consistent consumption of chocolate could be putting them in a caloric surplus over time. Then again, so could avocado’s… or sweet potato… or any food consumed. Energy balance only answers to overall energy intake vs expenditure – not individual foods. Chocolate does not make you fat. But mismanagement of its inclusion in relation to overall calorie intake might.⁣

With this in mind, as long as consumption of it still allows an individual to adhere to their overall nutritional goal, then consumption of it is ok. However, if consumption negates progression of the goal, one need’s to realise this. It may result in adjusting dietary intake, weighing out portions, purchasing smaller portion sizes of the item or avoiding consumption of it altogether. ⁣

Your choices regarding food consumption are limitless. It is up to you to find a balance of foods that support ideal body composition, foods that optimize function and foods that you especially enjoy. The magic happens when you work out how to combine all three. 🔥⁣
